BSOD on Windows install

Back to the x5x line of motherboards.

 

I have a i3 530, GA H55M S2H, GTX 1060, 8GB of Ripjaws X and a 500W Earthwatts Green. 

 

POSTs fine, but I cannot install windows without getting a "KERNEL SECURITY CHECK FAILURE" BSOD. 

 

I have:

cleared CMOS 

tried different, known good RAM

tried different PSU

disconnected GPU and used iGPU

different installer drive

 

Anyone can think of any other issues?

Try re-imaging the flash drive with the Windows 10 ISO.

It's in the list of things I've already done.

Sorry must have missed it.  I know you said various known good RAM, have you tried running Memtest86?  It could be a problem not with the modules but the slots/connections to the CPU itself.

Well... they pass on a different PC, but I can't boot memtest up on this one for some odd reason. No bent pins on the socket.

 

Currently it's at a state where it won't even POST.

Clear CMOS. If it still won't post, and you've verified the PSU connections, and you know the RAM works on another setup, and you've cleared CMOS, then I'd look at either reseating the CPU or look at replacing the MB.

 

Also, just for shits-n-giggles, make sure ONLY the HDD/SSD you plan on installing the OS is the ONLY one that is attached.

I'll be heading to Freegeek on Saturday to do just that. They allow returns, hopefully they have some in stock...

Have you tried a different Target Drive? 

And also S-ATA Port.

 

From my Experience, Windows Installation is an awesome stability test. If it fails there, there might be something not the way it should be with your system...

So that only leaves either CPU or Motherboard.
