6870 to 7870

I currently am going to move from a 6870 to a 7870 and my question is about drivers for AMD cards. Since the two cards use the same version to install AMD catalyst, should I be uninstalling AMD catalyst and reinstalling it for my 7870 or can I just plug it in and I should be fine? I already have the latest version of AMD catalyst as well.

It should work with a simple replacement of cards, but it'd be best to uninstall first, power off, remove the HD6870, replace with HD7870 and power up, install the latest driver, Cat 13.3 B3 (there's a newer one which I'm using which is newer, you can find it at guru3d).

i would uninstall it just because right now catalyst thinks you have a 6870, so it may not auto configure to the new graphics card, you can try it, but it doesn't take long to uninstall and reinstall it.

I would uninstall it just to be safe like TheCanadianGamer16 said and install them back (drivers+software) after you plug in your new gpu.

It will work perfectly fine just by replacing the card.

But I would personally do a clean install because I'm OCD when it comes to drivers.

I did the same upgrade a month ago. Just swapped the cards and it is working like a charm !
