Something happened totally unexpected and I have lost quite some amount of budget. I'm switching from my current build to an AMD build

Current (Out of budget build):

Intel i5-4670k processor

Gigabyte Z87X UD3H Motherboard

Sapphire R9 280X Vapor-X

Kingston Hyper X RAM 4GB x 2

Samsung 840 Evo 120GB

Western Digital Black RE4 2TB

Seasonic G series 550W PSU

CM Hyper 212X

DeepCool Tesseract ATX Case

Planned (Updated):

AMD FX-8320

Asus M5A990X EVO

G.Skill Aegis RAM 4GB x 2 (Someone snatched my deal on Kingston Hyper-X, and the Aegis RAM was on sale)

Gigabyte R9 280X Windforce Rev 2.0

Samsung 840 Evo 120GB

WD Black 1TB

Seasonic G Series 550W PSU

CM Hyper 212X

DeepCool Tesseract ATX Case

Rational:

I need to have more budget headroom in March after an incident happened to me. And thus the budget for i5 build is pretty tight for me. I made this decision after watching JayzTwoCent's video and Tek Syndicate's video on Pistol's RIG, considering that I only game on this system, I don't use this RIG for much productivity stuffs. Even if I need to, the extra cores can be very handy.

And yes, I will be giving up so much features such as Intel NIC, SRT etc... But for someone who needs to feed himself, I have no choice but to switch. What do you guys think of the build?

You don't need a 2 TB HDD, just drop it to a 1 TB (recommend Seagate Barracuda) and get the Hyper 212 EVO, not 212x

CPU: i7-4770k CPU Cooler: NH-D14 RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8gb GPU: EVGA Superclocked 780 ti MOBO: ASUS Maximus VI Gene PSU: Corsair RM 850 Case: Bitfenix Prodigy M

get a barracuda instead of a black

don't get a 280x as they are expensive, get a 770 of your choice

now with those 2 in mind, see if you can get intel, that if you want the feature set and the motherboard choices with that platform.

and Hyper212 EVO

edit also what's with the case?

Get the 212 EVO and a Seagate 3 TB for $90

It is true that I don't need a 2TB HDD, but the RE4 is on sale... I can't get the EVO as they are replaced by 212X in many stores.

Is it cheaper than a Seagate Barracuda? Also, you should be able to find an EVO somewhere.

I live in South East Asia, the bitcoin mining stuffs did not affect the price of GPU, thus 280X is still much cheaper than 770 in my country.

The case is developed by DeepCool as a budget gaming ATX case. It has no acrylic window, but the mesh on panel can be the window if you don't mind. For a budget case, it has very decent cable routing options. It also has tool-less drive bays and very decent air flow as well.

From what I know is that it is a fairly new case and it is not yet available in America.

The problem is that I work in a WD store, I can get almost any WD Drives at dealer price, which in this case I'm going either Blue or Black 1TB depending on the price offset.

Oh, ok, but you should be able to find a EVO cooler.

alright then you should be good, but still go with a cheaper harddrive, barracuda is on par with the blacks in performance and are significantly cheaper, only difference is warranty

Okay guys, I received a bad news.... I just found out that M5A990FX PRO R2.0 is not available in my country. The shop owner game me this instead...

FX-8320

ASUS M5A99X EVO (Non revision) or ASUS M5A97 PRO R2.0

G.Skill Aegis RAM 4GB x 2

Sapphire R9 280X Vapor-X

Samsung 840 Evo 120GB

WD Black 1TB

Seasonic G Series 550W PSU

Thermaltake Water 3.0 Extreme

DeepCool Tesseract ATX Case

I can get either board at the same price, which is better?

The 99X can do SLI natively. The 97 can't. And since you have a AMD card, it doesn't really matter unless you plan to upgrade to a Nvidia card in the future

I doubt I'll put more graphics card on the board in near future. Guess the 97 is better in this case?

Okay guys, parts have been confirmed and I will put my rational on the parts.

FX-8320

As I only game and does nothing productive on it. The FX's price to performance is much better in my opinion. I have to use AMD as something happened with me unable to afford an i5 build. Also, the 8 cores can be handy if I ever have to do something productive.

ASUS ROG Crosshair V Formula-Z (IF MY BUDGET ALLOWS IT)

Considered the best 990FX board around. It also has an Intel NIC and great sound chip. I will be overclocking the CPU, this board will serve me well.

G.Skill Aegis RAM 4GB x 2

The shop I'm buying from has these on sale if you buy AMD parts. Weird eh?

Gigabyte Windforce R9 280X Rev 2.0

Mining is almost non-existent in my country. This leaves Nvidia more expensive to get. The latest revision of windforce cooler has changed to metal shroud with black PCB. Making it more fit into the colour scheme. Not to mention that Windforce cooler performs like a beast.

Samsung 840 EVO 120GB + WD Black 1TB

Seasonic G Series 550W PSU

The cheapest 80+ Gold PSU I can get.

CM Hyper 212X

212 Evo has been phased out in my country.

DeepCool Tesseract ATX Case

The best budget ATX case IMO.

TOTAL COST: US$1238 with windows license.

I don't see the point in getting such an expensive motherboard unless you have a very good cooling solution.

The cheaper M5A97 PRO R2.0 is plenty for an oc with the 212x.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

LOL, my budget is insufficient for ROG board. So I'm getting M5A97 PRO/EVO R2.0 depending on availability.
