1440P or 4K?

Go to solution Solved by Cyberstorm42X,

I'd like to thank everyone for their input!

After a lot of thought, research and looking around at all the options available at my budget for my use case, I have decided to go with the 4k monitor.

I had a look at multiple benchmarks of all the games I play/am likely to be playing and a 2080 can run them all at 4k no problem.

While 1440p would be more ideal for a 27" monitor, I can't find a good one for under $500NZD, and the 31.5" one is too big for 1440p as I'd sit fairly close to it, meaning the PPI would be about the same as my current 23" 1080p monitor.

I found another site that had the 4k monitor at only $20 more than the 1440p one, which was the final clincher on which one to get.

Again I'd like to thank everyone who responded to my post and provided their feedback!

I'm looking to upgrade my old GTX 970 for an RTX 2080 in the near future, and am going to replace my monitor as well.

I've got two monitors in mind but can't decide which one to get.

(The prices are in NZD)

I want to be able to run games at max settings at 60fps, is an RTX 2080 capable of running games at 4k at 60fps or would the 1440p monitor be a better choice at this stage?
I don't play competitive or FPS games so high refresh-rates aren't my thing, more just wanting to play games at max settings.

Currently the "most demanding" game I'm playing is Forza Horizon 4, and the majority of games I play on PC are either platformers or racing games.

I also do some work in Source Filmmaker and might get into programs like Maya or Blender in the future.

I know the 2080 can definitely run 1440p with everything set to ultra, but can it handle 4k ultra settings?

Cheers.

no, even the 2080 ti is just enough. A 1440p monitor with good color is what you want.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

I would go 4k if your not into high fps titles, you will be happier with the overall screen density in and out of games.

Personally I have a 27" LG 4K 60hz w/ HDR10 and it looks amazing in and out of games, I drive it with a RTX 2070 with a 20% OC on the core and about 30% OC on memory.

I run most titles just below or at 60fps on a mix of high to max settings.

Depends on the Size of the Screen.

Personally I'd not go 4k under 32"

If you want a 27" Screen, I'd get a 1440p, I have that right now and am very happy with that.

HDR10 is another thing...

4K with 27" is a bit small...

Yeah I'd prefer the 4k monitor to be 32"

Unfortunately the tech supply in New Zealand is terrible, basically everything under $500 is 1080p.

I don't really want to spend any more than $450NZD on a monitor, and these are the two options that are IPS and higher resolution than 1080p.

Defiantly 1440P, would work MUCH better with the 2080 and the frame rates will be a lot higher and at max settings.

Running a 1440P 27" now and it's been great, both with my GTX 1080Ti and RTX 2080Ti.
