Hi

I have a bit of an issue with an HDMI dummy plug I bought. I bought it for using with my server so it would think that it has a monitor attached. The plug was sold with "4K UHD" branding so I believed that the server would be able to replicate a range of resolutions up to 4K when accessed remotely.

But when I have plugged it in and attempted to access the server remotely, I found that the desktop being displayed was just a small box in the middle of the screen. I knew this would probably be a resolution issue so I went to display settings by right clicking on the desktop (the server runs Windows 10 Pro) to look at the resolution settings. In here there is only the option to output 640x480 resolution. I cannot select any other resolutions as the drop down menu is greyed out.

Is there some other way (other than display settings) to force the server to output the desktop at a higher resolution? Or is it solely dependent upon the hardware plugged into it? Have I been scammed?

Thanks

@DezGalbie Do you have a link to the dongle?

Here it is - https://www.wish.com/search/portable headless ghost hdmi/product/5a7e94f7639a7a543daa63c1?&source=search

Cheap Chinese product. But I was hoping I couldn't go far wrong with something so simple!

Yeah, when I connect it to my TV (1080P) the server displays properly

Well I think that is good enough to rules out any issues with the computer's hardware/software.

I think that dummy plug is bad, still debatable if it is a scam it could just be defective. I think I would return it if all possible and find another product.

Yeah, I think it's probably a scam...

With HDMI, you get what you pay for.
