Ghost files in Win10

In windows explorer, it says that my C drive has 76 GB of free space out of the 222 GB it has total. However, looking in the folders located in that drive, they account to 109 GB. 222 -109 = 113 so why does windows report that it has 76 GB free? Are there 37 GB of ghost files or something? I'm at a loss here and could use some help. My C drive is an SSD btw, it's an NVMe m.2 drive. I have used Defraggler to optimize the drive already, as well as Win10 drive check.

Hidden files/folders. And you have have hidden partitions (boot partitions and recovery).

I did think about the partitions for a moment, but I didn't think they were any larger than a GB, as for hidden files and folders; I have those enabled. Shouldn't they be accounted for in the total contents of a folder?

 

EDIT: I checked, the partition (my C drive) is 222.12 GB big, so that's not the issue.

Download and run WinDirStat as an administrator, that will show you better than Windows Explorer.

I said I Optimized it, I did not defrag it.

Okay, I don't know where that came from but I believed it. I don't know if this statement is true! What do you think?? Is it true??

Ages ago, it was true. But, not anymore... You can defrag an SSD.. it won't give you anything, as the drive will fragment the defragmented data to evenly use the chips.... but yea....

 

SLC and MLC based SSDs are built like tanks since a couple of years.

TLC, you can do it every now and then, but best to limit the number of defrags.

QLC I would say, no, until proven durability which sounds already very low.
