Hi im looking to spend about 1100- 1200 pounds on a new rig and would use it for gaming with maybe 240hz monitor or something else, what do u guys think. I currently have a

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600 @ 3.2Ghz 

Motherboard: MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC 

RAM: Team Vulcan DDR4 16GB (2x8GB)

GPU: Zoatac Gtx 1070 8GB 

Case: CoolerMaster Masterbox Lite 5 RGB

Storage: 2TB Toshiba HDD, 120GB WD Green SSD 

PSU: Gigabyte P650B

i don't really know used market, so i won't argue on that part

 

you don't want to upgrade that one?

That is a pretty balling system already, I would recommend selling the GPU and the CPU and upgrading to a Zen 2 (Ryzen 3) chip this june or July, all previous gen motherboards will have support for those. By that time, RTX cards wiil (hopefully) be on sale as well.

Why? The 2600 is a good CPU, B450 is a good chipset for it, 16GB of RAM is fine, 1070 is still good, you have plenty of storage.

 

I don't see a real reason to build an entirely new system. I'd maybe get an aftermarket CPU cooler and do some OC, and you could get a new 2070 or 2080 and that 1080p 240Hz monitor. 1100 pounds would get you a system with pretty similar performance to this, so I don't know why you want to build an entirely new system...

tho i would suggest a psu swap, maybe a new front panel (mb500 front panel fits almost entirely native, you just have your front io a little blocked). for me temps dropped by 10 degrees on the cpu. get a nice zen 2 chip, maybe a 2080 or vii and be done

 

it's much better than you'll get with a fully new system

i hope haha ill probably buy a used gpu anyway but what would be good for 240hz or like 1440p 144hz

what gpu for 240hz and i have 300 pounds to spend if i dont sell my rig or my gpu and cpu but if i sold them and upgraded id have more

1080p 240Hz or 1440p 144Hz?

I'd say a 2070 or above. You might be able to get by on a 2060, or even a 1660Ti, but you'd have to do some research on fps in the games you play.

i mean ive got a 144hz now and  i play alot of rust at about 80fps max settings

let's say you get 300 for the gpu and 50 for the psu (as a baseline)

1080p 240Hz would be more strain on the CPU. Ryzen CPUs are not very capable in high refresh rate 1080p, unless you will be playing titles like CS:Go and Overwatch, I would go the intel route for high refresh rate gaming, until Ryzen 3 and Zen 2 comes out.

if i upgrade to a ryzen 5 3rd gen would that be good

I can't tell you for sure, since they haven't released yet, but the leaked specs and the demos at CES look very promising to say the least.
