Building Computer for Son

I have some old computer hardware, I was wondering if I could use this motherboard, cpu, and ram with NO graphics card. 

Motherboard: ECS A960M-M4 (1.0) AM3+ AMD 760G HDMI Micro ATX AMD 

CPU: AMD FX-6300

Ram: 8GB DDR3 1333

 

I have a older power supply out of a like "walmart" computer, thought maybe I could use it since I don't need to power a graphics card.

correct me if i’m wrong. but i am pretty sure the FX series CPUs do not have integrated graphics, so you would need to throw in a gpu (probably a gt 1030 if you are on a budget)

The FX 6300 has no integrated graphics, you'd need something to push a display. Cheapo low end like a GT 710 might do, they go for good prices on eBay.

Ok, thank you. I didn't know or not, I used to run a GTX 550 TI but think its dead.

Yeah I would just grab the lowest power draw and cheapest GPU possible. Other than that, the parts should all work fine. Since FX processors are known to be hot, and you don't seem to need much horsepower, consider undervolting or even disabling cores to reduce your power bill.

GTX 750Ti would be a good buy, they are still pretty decent ultra budget options. If all else fails, a GT 710 should be cheaper and would at least make the PC usable.

What games does your son play and at what resolution.  This is a POS computer sorry to say.  You can grab your son a new powerful fast system for gaming and other things by spending about 700 bucks.

I think the goal is to make a functioning system, POS or not, as cheaply as possible.

I just want the son to enjoy the system.  If hes really young then ya this can be a good first system for him.  But as he gets older he will want more eye candy and fast frame rates.

The problem with the GTX 750 Ti is that it's overpriced given it's a 'good pick'.

 

Without knowing the PSU specs it's impossible to say what GPU is appropriated, maybe even a GTX 950 might stress it to the point of failure.

Yea, I've noticed that too. 750Ti's are way overpriced right now, I picked up a 970 a few weeks ago for less than what most 750Ti's are listed for...

Oh, and I would say get the 760 GTX.  It can dish out 60fps at 1080p however your CPU will limit it big time.

tho both need a psu power connector...

 

i would suggest a 290x for around 80-100 dollars second hand, but that one does draw some more power

Hey Luke my friend what is the nvidia equivalent to the 290x ?  I had a 760 for a long time and it never dissapointed me at 1080p 60fps in Unreal Engine UT Alpha.  No dips unless you turn up the graphics to ultra high.  Can the 290x deliver such performance ?

290x is around 1060 3gb-1060 6gb=970=780-780 ti

390x, 780 ti, 970, 290, 390, 570, 480

 

all options for around 100 dollars if you can find them

 

but because of power draw and rarity I'll leave out the 690
