airflow

Go to solution Solved by rentaspoon,

My theory is basically if he's pushing MORE hot air into the system, and disrupting the natural flow of heat dissipation at the same time... it just seems a little inefficient as an intake fan is all.

Which is true, I'm going on the thought of increase airflow will increase heat dissapation.

Both ideas will work.

hi guys im thinking about cutting 2x120mm fan holes into the top of case because when its a hot day the top of the case gets hot so will the help getting the hot air out of the when i have the side door on ?

Maybe?

What case and fan config do you currently have?

i have a cheap 100 dollars from i cant rember the name of it and my fans as 1intake and 2 exhasut

The number of fans don't matter as much as the positioning the said fans.

A diagram and/or picture could help.

Both side fans for intake (if it's not too humid), top and rear for exhaust.

What you're thinking of can work but I'd suggest ghetto mounting a 140mm intake in the 5.25" bays if possible with some tape.

There should be ridges coming in from the side 5.25" drive bays. If you put a bit of tape (I used duct tape on my Phantom) on the ridge, you can pressure fit a 140mm into it for direct airflow towards the cpu cooler.

well i cant put a fan over cpu because i have a nh-d14 cpu cooler and ok so intake top and back exhaust ?

This is rather convenient for an example since I use a NH-D14 as well.

It can end up looking pretty nice with an led fan as well:

I'm using a Prolimatech Pro LED 140mm if you're wondering.

to mount the fan would double side tape do the trick would the fanholes at the top help as well ?

I suppose if you really had to. Provided they don't weigh as much as something like the Scythe Gentle Typhoon. Blu-Tak if you are desperate.

I would really argue against it as heat has a tendency to rise.

The Silverstone SG09 has an intake fan at the top but that said it has a 180mm fan that pushes a lot of air but putting it as an exhaust saves you 2°c.

I'd try it as intake for an hour under load, take temps, vent for an hour with computer at idle and run it for an hour under load with the fans as exhaust and take temps.

and on the front of the my case where u mount the cd drive i can put two 120mm fans on there would that help increase airflow thought the case ?

The font fans would help, more so if there was no obstruction in the form of drive bays. I'm going to be clear about how I think you should set this up: Whatever top fan/fans you have: Exhaust. Rear fan: Exhaust. Front fans: Intake. Side panel: Off.

i kinda want to keep my side panel on and have the heat blowing out the back if thats prossbile

actaully one question if i did mount fan in front and so 2 intake and two exhaust and would that be good ?

Where's the 2nd exhaust?

How can you mount 2 120mm's?

heat does rinse

Well yes but if your pushing it down and out the back it should be ok if not better. I'm just pointing out that in some cases (no pun intended) it make no or very little difference.

In his actual case he would be better of directly cooling the cpu IMO. But the fan in the 5.25 bays seem a better idea
