Wifi and Bandwidth

Hi, new user here

Im here to try prove a point to my stubborn father about some wifi issues I've been having and I just cant find the solid evidence he'll accept,

Essentially, the issue is when my sister streams video, like netflix and youtube etc, my downloads speeds hit the floor, this is mainly due to the fact shes right next to the router whilst im on the other side of the house, I cannot use an ethernet cable due to this.

Does anyone know anything about WiFi in this sense and can explain what is going on exactly and can prvide me with some info.
