Programs dont get treated like normal

I installed Windows 10 on a new computer. And because my Internet is shit and Im a lazy person I just copied a bunch of programs on an external HDD and copied them onto the new version of windows. But now they dont get treated like real programs?!   If you know what I mean. Like when I search them in the Start menu it doesnt find them, "Add Programms or deinstall" doesnt find them. I cant change my default browser to chrome because of this. Does anyone know how fix this?

The installers do more than just extract the application files, it also creates shortcuts and modify the registry (linking the uninstaller for the "add programs" panel, file extension associations, adding it to the list of browsers, etc..). You'll need to reinstall them using the proper way

ok thanks. That sucks but is understandable.

Not really. For many programs you can just add the extra step of the setup.

If you are a particular case or issue I go in more details.

But for Start menu shortcuts, just make a shortcut of the .exe, rename it to something nice.

Then just move it to:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

or

C:\Users\<Account name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

First one, shares the shortcut for all users

Second one is only for your account.

Note that: "AppData" is a hidden folder, so if you don't see it, just type it in the address bar.
