Hey everyone,

I want to upgrade my MSI GTX 970 to a newer GPU. The problem that I'm having is that I'm not sure if I should wait for the new generation of cards or go out now and buy a card like the RTX 2060. I'm not really in a rush to buy one now, as the games, I play run okish. The reason for an upgrade is i want to play games such as Apex Legends at 144fps so it can match my 144hz monitor. If anyone can advise me on how to approach upgrading my gpu it would be great. My pc specs are: I5-4690k OC to 4.6ghz, z97 Gaming 5, 16GB RAM DDR3 2133hz and GTX 970 as the GPU. Thanks!

If your games run okay with the hardware you currently have, then there's no reason to upgrade. Wait until either new graphics cards are released, or the price of current ones drops significantly.

If you can get 144hz by dropping settings then stick with what you have. Prices will be lower in 6 months or so and will certainly be lower once AMD launches their next GPU generation later this year or early next year.

Sorry to bother you guys, but i just got a notification with a Gigabyte G1 GTX 1080 on sale for £300 and was wondering if its worth the upgrade from the GTX 970. Seems like a reasonable price.

I’m aiming for a second hand 1080 for driving older games at 1440p up to 144hz.

Moslty Rocket League CSGO but also Skyrim with plenty of mods.

I also play Terraria, Football Manager and TGC series. I usually avoid AAA titles.

They are still a touch pricey for me but looks to be the ideal card for performance per $ for my use case.

I have yet to see many under £300 and usually by the end of bidding they are over £300 on eBay.

@AlmondNoTitties you just have to keep bidding to your budget and you will get one eventually if you keep missing out by a few £s. £350 seems reasonable for 1080.

I spied a AIO Vega 64 around £400 which is an alternative for my use case.
