Hi so I am looking at a new build, but thinking I could potentially use some parts I already have from my system I built around 6-7 years ago (reason for upgrade)

I am in the UK and tend to use ebuyer.com for parts but open to any suppliers.

My current spec is:

Intel core i7 3770k 3.5Ghz socket 1155 (not oc'ed)

16GB DDR3 1600MHz Kingston RAM

Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H ATX Motherboard

Geforce GTX 970 GPU (Upgraded more recently than the rest of the PC)

Coolermaster 850w Silent Pro M2 Modular PSU

Coolermaster HAF X High Airflow Full Tower

Seagate 2TB 3.5" SATA Hard Drive

So obviously I know to upgrade my cpu I also need a new mobo and new RAM and could benefit from a SSD, other than that I currently use 2 1920x1080p monitors and want to keep a dual monitor setup although would look to move to a higher resolution in the future.

I use my PC mainly for gaming and work witch include some use of programs such as photoshop and after effects. I also occasionally stream / record gameplay.

Any suggestions are very welcome but I would like to keep the build at around the £1000 price mark but open to go higher if necessary or plan for components to be added in the future rather than right now.

I am choosing Intel because you use Adobe CC. This makes Intel just the better path to go. Depending on the games you play a 2060 would be more than enough but a 2070 almost fits the budget.

I assume you are not much of an overclocker so a decent but not extrem cpu cooler will fulfill your needs

  • 5 weeks later...

Looking at going with this final build. Only other things I need to decide on are, 1) what case to get, I really love the HAF X I have, its treated me really well these last 6-7 years and has amazing temperatures but its definitely seen some use and the filters etc are quite dirty and very hard to clean. Also I really like the look of some of these tempered glass cases about now, can anyone recommend one with good air flow? I kinda like the idea of a bit of RGB not going to go all out on it though, providing there are some included in the case it's unlikely I will buy more unless necessary for airflow.

Then also, would it be worth the extra cash to go for an i7 9700k eventhough they have taken away hyperthreading? (I think I'm set on an intel system)

Thanks for everyone's responses up to now also.
