Using a vhd with steam?

I have to run a steam game of a vhd (for some reason not working on normal hdd). but everytime I reboot my pc I have to manualy open the vhd, close steam, open steam, tell steam there is a folder in the vhd before it works. Is there a way to get around this or automate it on bootup? (The game has to be on the vhd)
