yeah found the problem, thank you daniel.

audio splitter wasnt working, swapped it out

If you've already confirmed the microphone shows up as an Input Device by right clicking on your volume icon in the right hand side of the system tray, and choosing Open Sound Settings, be sure that your privacy settings are not preventing the microphone from working.
