Sorry guys, I posted a question a few hours ago that was asking anybody for an AM4 (Asus B350-M) compatible CPU that was within the price range of $150-$200.

However, I made the mistake of not specifying the currency, which is Australian dollars.

So, to clarify, I wanted to ask anybody for a $125-130 ish CPU compatible to an AM4 mobo.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Both RYZEN generations of CPU's are compatible with AM4 boards, however, I would check if your specific motherboard is compatible with the second generation, just in case. A BIOS update will be necessary in order to install a second generation RYZEN CPU, however, first generation RYZEN CPU's will be compatible out of the box.

I would go with a 1600. It may not perform as well in games as the latest Intel CPU's, but brand new and with 6 cores and 12 threads for that price is a bargain.

Found this Ryzen 5 1600 for AU$230. A little over budget I know...

maybe you can find a 1600 around that price?

Ryzen 5 seems just out of budget for me, do you think it’s worth saving up for? Or maybe a Ryzen 3 1300X? (Edit: buy the 1300X so that I have more money on future upgrades elsewhere in the PC)

waiting for a 1600 is worth it

or if you don't want to, a 1200/2200g gives a way better value

4 cores 8 threads is the bare minimum you should get today. Maybe a Ryzen 5 1500X?
