Hi guys, I am helping out a friend who is upgrading from a Gtx 770 to an MSI Gtx 970. He actually bought 2 of them because he was thinking about running them in SLI, but we're having trouble getting either to work by itself.

On one of them, the LED lights turn on and the fans spin, but there is no display output and the card is not recognized at all in Windows device manager or in the BIOS itself as a PCI device. The card is clearly receiving power but the motherboard essentially fails to acknowledge its existence entirely.

The other is even less promising, as whenever it is in the system neither the card nor cpu fan or hard drives or anything will power on aside from a very small <0.5 sec. blip right when you press the power button. Oddly enough though, the power LED on the case stays on until I force power down. I did figure out that by only plugging in the 6-pin connector and leaving off the 8-pin, the card's fans will spin up, but the LED stays turned off. I am then able to boot using integrated graphics, but the GPU isn't recognized at all just like the other one after doing so.

I also tried both of these in my PC, which I know works and powers a 1070 Ti perfectly fine. In both PCs I am still able to boot using integrated graphics, and the cards display the same symptoms in both cases. I also tried disabling integrated graphics altogether in case there was some sort of conflict, but this didn't work and I just ended up having to do another CMOS clear, which brought back my integrated graphics, but the main issues are still the same.

Is there any hope at all for either of these GPUs? Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?

Any help is much appreciated!

Meh some build specs...

Meh some inspirational quote meh...

Since these cards are affecting your system as well, I would be inclined to believe it's the fault of the graphics cards and not the systems. Where did you buy from? It's a good idea to contact the buyer.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Yeah that was my thought as well. He said he bought one from a friend of his and one from eBay. I was hoping to see if anyone might have any suggestions before I have him get into a huge ordeal with the sellers.

If he got one from a friend then have that friend re test and help diagnose. It might solve both.
