this is a really stupid question but my friend said that if i use bigger resolution than the monitor provides damages it, and i was wondering if that is true.

my current monitor runs 1680x1050 and i would really love to run it at 1920x1080 but then what my friend said keeps me away from doing that.

so is it safe?

If you have the proper driver for you GPU, you should not be able to choose resolution higher than monitor can display.

It should not in any way damage the monitor but the image won't be as sharp and some elements may be too small to use it normally because the screen is not optimized for higher resolution than native.

i can create any custom resolution in the nvidia control panel
