So i got a Corsair H100i water cooler for my gaming pc, its paired with a (old school) i5 2400. my idle temps are around 50+ degrees C and when i open a game up it jumps to 70 degrees C. Is this normal or should i reapply thermal paste (btw im using cooler master high preformance paste)image.png.6984248b296f180756d48536e1b1060a.png

What was your old cooler?

For starters, you could undervolt instead of repaste.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

Those temperatures are quite high. Check that the fans are plugged in and properly spinning on the radiator. Wouldn't hurt to remount it and apply new paste either just to make sure it is mounted properly and has good contact.

Screenshot you posted shows the CPU is on 44% load with 50C temps? That's not really idle... Check for background processes running that are using the CPU.

CPU: Intel i7 6700k  | Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 5 | RAM: 2x16GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX | GPU: Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080ti | PSU: Corsair RM750x (2018) | Case: BeQuiet SilentBase 800 | Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34 eSports | SSD: Samsung 970 Evo 500GB + Samsung 840 500GB + Crucial MX500 2TB | Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HU + Samsung BX2450

also im sure they are plugged in cause the thing revs up so loud haha and i checked they are the right way around

is it cause of my installation cause i notice that its hot on one pipe (im new to water cooling)

lol I can see you didn't quote my last pose, there's a funny roundabout way for me to see your response.

Motherboard VRMs can get way hotter than semiconductors like your CPU, 125 or even 150 is where you should worry as opposed to 100. And since your motherboard doesn't have a VRM heat sink, they're sure to get hot.

I would venture to say you have poor airflow in your case. The CPU at 45c on idle with watercooling is the first indication of this. The motherboard temps are also very high for being on idle.

Is that fan able to breathe? I can't tell what case you're using but it's possible there's an airflow issue. Is it possible to mount the radiator as an exhaust instead? Worth a shot.

That's not a H100i. Looks more like a H80i?
What case is that? Is it open at the front to allow air flow through the radiator?

Airflow required. Simple as that. Very likely that's the VRMs and having a fan either blowing on them or sucking air off them would help a lot.

Primary Rig:

CPU: AMD 7800X3D @ Stock PBO - Mobo: Gigabyte X670E AORUS Master

2 x 48GB G.Skill Trident Z Royal 6400MHz CL32 1.35V @ 6200MHz CL28-37-32-30 1.5V (still tuning)

CPU Cooler: EK AIO that will be being replaced when I get the chance - PSU: eVGA P2 1200W

GPU: Gigabyte RTX 4090 Gaming OC @ either 2595MHz @ 900mV or 2970MHz @ 1070mV

Case: Thermaltake View 91 - SSDs/HDDs: 1 Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, 2 990 Pro 2TB M.2s, 1 990 Pro 4TB M.2, 1 TeamGroup Cardea Z440 2TB M.2, 1 Seagate EXO X10 10TB HDD
