Hi, I have my 9600k running at 5.1GHz. This is great, but I would like to try getting even faster. Does anyone know how to/have experience with base clock overclocking.

(I already know the difference between base clock and cpu multiplier)

All chips are different (all Silicon in the chip is different, like snowflakes being unique). Whats the voltage you have running the 5.1ghz, and have you done any stability tests like Prime95 or AIDA64?

Unless you're extremely lucky like the Youtuber Optimum Tech (he got his 8600k to 5.4ghz), I have a feeling you won't be able to push it much further, but do tell your voltages, if it's stable, and your cooling setup please!

I am not expecting to get past 5.13-5.14GHz. My voltage is 1.35, only will to go to 1.355V. My system info is on https://pcpartpicker.com/list/dTHHgw

Damn, 5.1 on 1.35v? Thats not bad, especially with that cooler.

You might be able to push a little further with a better cooler, but what are your temps? And have you done any stability testing to make sure the overclock is actually stable? Games and idling the CPU isn't the best way to test, heavy loads is the best way.

I'm not going to get another cooler for at least a few years (I just built my system on new years day). I have only tested with cinebench and anthem.

bump it to 101 and see if its stable. i wont say anything more. base clock affects EVERYTHING. ram, mobo stuff, EVERYTHING. be very carefull with this.

I'll try that.

Try a trial version of AIDA64 and a copy of Prime95. You may want to leave Prime95 running for a while. It'll hit your CPU very hard, but Prime95 is the best way to make sure it's all stable.

generally, 101 wont change stability much, but if you have fast ram, it could cause problems.

I do not recommend going above 103 if you aren't steve (gamer's nexus).
