DRAM & NB frequency issue(?)

Go to solution Solved by HoneyBadger84,

You're not going to fry your Northbridge/uncore by running it at what is precisely stock, all the time, that's the way you need to look at it. As long as it's not running overclocked or with higher voltage, it won't hurt it at all. It's made to run at that speed after all.

And yes, try setting the min ratio to 8.

Hello,and sorry for my English.

Shortly - i have problem with NB frequency stuck at max even when idle.

My memory(Good Ram 2x4Gb DDR3 Kit) specified to work at 1600Mhz but i was using at 1333 for some time, and now decided to change it to 1600.

So with Bios settings i changed Memory freq from Auto to 1600,restart PC,and all kinda works,

BUT in CPU-Z in Memory tab it says that NB frequency is 3299 Mhz (same as turbo boost CPU freq),and it stays same when idle or load.

Before i did that change NB Frequency was 800Mhz while idle and could go up under load.

This change also makes CPU run hotter - from 28C(with 1333 DRAM) to 35C (1600) when idle(under load it also works hotter),and HWmonitor says that Uncore which used to consume at idle nearly 0 watts now always use 9W even when everything else uses 1W together(IA Cores + GT + DRAM).

So i'm worry i will fry NB with running it constantly at max freq, and don't like that CPU getting so much hotter just for such memory freq change, but i want my memory to run at 1600Mhz.

When i change Mem frq from 1600 back to Auto in Bios, all works same as it was (NB 800Mhz,CPU cool),when i switch to XMP rather than just to 1600,it work same as 1600 do (NB 3299,CPU runs hotter).

Also when i switch to XMP or to 1600 it tries change CPU Core ratio from Auto to Synchronize ALL cores,so i tried to set it back to Auto but it doesn't help, then i tried set it to Per Core and now in HWmonitor it says that Uncore uses half of power ~4-5W,but NB still stays at 3299 when idle.

While i was writing this,i decided to try change CPU Core Ratio to Sync All cores but set memory to Auto(1333),and that get me the same issue - NB always stays at 3299Mhz,Uncore uses 9W,CPU hot.

But now i saw that there are options under CPU Core Ratio, called Cache ratio Min and Max,they always set to Auto, and it's "fill the field" ones,no hint displayed,so i don't know what to put there, that seems related to my problem,as if with 1600Mhz RAM,or with changed CPU Core ratio,Cache Ratio Min Auto doesn't work correctly.

So is this cause of my problem? Are this Cache ratio works same as multiplier for cores?Min - 8,Max 33(i5 4440)?Is it safe to change it from Auto to 8?

System:

CPU: i5 4440

Mobo: H87-Plus

Memory: Good Ram DDR3 2x4Gb Kit 1600Mhz CL9 DIMM SR
