WINDOWS 10 UNUSABLE (basically)

recently, i don't know wtf triggered it, but moving my mouse over any sort of video element just freezes my computer to shits.

For example, a youtube video at any resolution (even 144p) will lag like a dog ONLY if i put my cursor over the video element itself

This is the case in Opera (my main browser)

On Edge, youtube doesn't lag but clicking basic UI and typing on the search bar just makes everything laggggggggggggggggg

I have since moved to Firefox, where I'm not having any problems

BUT when i try to play csgo, the game is all fine but ANY ANY movement to the mice (even in the main screen) will cause fps to drop to essentially ZERO (with mouse not moving, game runs stable 150-200fps)

Joining a discord voice channel is useless because the audio just sounds robotic and frickin laggy (not on my friend's side)

At first I thought it was my antivirus causing it, because i noticed it was always scanning my ssd for viruses or what not

BUT i fully uninstalled it and am still dealing with this horse****

I don't even know who to report this to???

I have my drivers fully updated, CPU temps in the 20-30 deg Cs, windows 10 updated just today, moved my mice USB ports

 

Note my cursor is not default but changing it back to default had no effect.

Maybe malware or something? If not, try reinstalling your mouse and graphics drivers.

if you have a spare drive you could try and do a fresh install of windows that would rule out any HW problems also it could be your SSD I or HDD I have had it where it was barely usable due to a drive being on its way out

Virus are not malware. Although, most anti-virus can detect popular malwares and spyware, same for Windows, but itns't their specialty.

Run malwarebytes scan and virus scan. Reinstall mouse drivers etc.

 

If all else fails, format C and reinstall Windows. 

 

Also, the integrated Win10 defender antivirus works just fine. You don't need paid versions.

To me it sounds like a driver issue.

Many drivers under Windows are loaded at the kernel level, deep down... so if they have a memory leak, it takes the system with it (system will consume a lot of memory increasingly, until you are out), if they have a bug that cost performance, then the entire system will go down with it, as you noticed. And Task Manager might not show what consumes 100% of the CPU as a result. If you are lucky, you'll see "System" (which is the kernel of Windows) process consume a lot of something.

 

The problem, is that it is difficult to know what driver is the culprit. But considering that the cursor is CPU drawn, it can indicate:

• Mouse and/or Keyboard software/driver
• Chipset drivers

DDU and reinstall drivers.  then disable hardware acceleration in your browsers.

should be fine after that.

Another crazy idea: borrow or get some cheapo $5 mouse, unplug your current one and try it. It must be the mouse. I trust ESET enough to doubt a malware explanation vor now.
