Question: Can I use Drive Bay Res not installed in drive bay???

JPStone

First time Custom Looper here. So I bought everything I need. CPU water block, Radiator, Tubing and fittings. I also picked up a EK DBAY D5 PW MMX pump/res combo. It was on sale and I am trying to do this minimal cost. I dont have any drive bays on my case but I was thinking maybe I would be able to secure it on top of the PSU shroud inside the case. I was thinking using some 3M industrial strength Velcro or something similar so I would be able to remove it for maintenance.

Any reason this would not work or might cause problem. Maybe a way I can do it better with the existing equipment I have. Case is a NZXT S340 Elite? Any advice, tip or tricks would be much obliged.

It’s the same as any res. You can do what ever you want without issues. Just don’t let the fluid level drop below the pump. Same as any situation.

As mentioned you can mount it anywhere you can find feasible and in this case not being in an expansion bay is actually a plus since most pump/bay res combo unit will actually transfer vibration to the case readily causing excessive vibration and noise.
