Getting a new cpu

I know there is not a lot of difference in benchmarks I have seen between the Intel i9 9900k and the AMD Ryzen 7 2700X. And I know there is a huge price difference. I have always been an Intel person, but I am thinking of going with the AMD. Performance wise is it a good choice? What are you folks opinion?

Depends on what you use it for. You're looking at benchmarks so you should be aware that they're better at high fps gaming, and how they stack up for real work. Price to performance ryzen is killing it, though I'd suggest the 2700 since you should be able to manually overclock it to right around where a 2700x will overclock

then you've probably not seen enough. 9900k scores 2150 - 2200cb in Cinebench R15 easily, while 2700X stop at about 1920cb. In games the difference just gets wider when you're not GPU bottlenecked.

 

Still it depends on your overall budget. If a slower CPU means much better GPU, then that's a good sacrifice.

Perf/Dollar, the 2700x wins, unless you have a huuge budget (3000$+), then the 2700x is better. a 2700X is 200$ cheaper, and will OC fine on a 50$ air cooler (4.2ghz), while the 9900k basically requires a D15 or 240mm aio or bigger

 

250$ less will get you a much better mobo, more ram, better ram, etc.

Intel generally does better at gaming and single thread perf while AMD at multicore etc.  AMD has Ryzen 3000 coming out before too long so that'll be interesting.

 

Personally, if I was just doing gaming I'd get a 8700k and if I was doing professional workloads a 2700.  Ryzen supports ECC as well, if that's important to you.

Even from Jay's video you can already see how overclocked results of the 9900k outshine the 2700X. I myself only watch Jay's videos when it comes to building custom water loops though, the reviews just arent detailed enough.

144hz display and strong GPU? Unlocked Intel.

60-75hz display and any GPU? Ryzen.
