Help picking parts for new computer

Go to solution Solved by Nibbler230,

I don't know how to close this thread but I might as well. Not getting comments and the build has changed a bit so I'm going to maybe make a new thread. Consider this one done.

Hey everyone!

So my friend is building a new computer and we are trying to pick the best parts. I would love some feed back!

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/4GDgWD

Something to note, from that list, the power supply, case, and second 2 TB hdd are being salvaged from his old system. (he might buy replacement parts to complete that system again and just sell it)

Which brings the cost of the system down to $1491.94 which is about his price goal. He can go a little above $1500 if the deal is good, but prefers not to.

Main use of the computer would be general gaming. Any and all types of games. 1440P, not 4k. Not streaming.

Second main use though is he wants to get into game development using Unreal Engine 4. This is mostly why a little higher on the CPU and more storage space.

I may get him to overclock a little. Probably not a whole lot though. Setting the RAM to its 3200 speed, and then maybe the CPU to 5 GHz if it seems super stable and decent temps. Otherwise probably 4.8 GHz.

So any advice?

Note that 9700k dont have hyperthreading , just 8c /8t . may suffer in some scenarios (mainly ubisoft games), not a fan of intel anymore lol.

other than that also check for sx8200 pro for a bit more, just more promising read & writes (no more inverted sticker!!!)

O nice. I didn't even know there was a pro version of the sx8200. I might get him to go 970 evo/pro anyways. the sx8200 just seems like a better bang for the buck. But I really like samsungs warranties and service.

As for the other part. We have debated between the 9700k and the 8700k. The 8700k has 4 more threads, but to me unless unreal engine 4 or any of the games really utilizes all 12 threads, then the 9700k would be better. How would we be able to know?
