My work involves industrial design/engineering, so we have a few high powered Quadro stations for 3D editing lying around. My boss recently bough a new company that actually makes Prototypes. The place was terribly under managed and in shambles. Part of my current job is to get the new place back to good running order and oversee all the projects there. Even after 4 Months of sorting things out there is still a lot of old machinery lying around.

Today, I sat at a random desk doing my work, when, as I peered through the side panel air vents of one of the desktop towers next to me, I noticed what looked like a silvery shroud that reminded me of the Radon Vega (64 and even VII). I knew it was definitely non of those but realizing that we are a design studio, there could be the possibility that it was an interesting graphics card. As I have just rejoined the PC master race, my interest was stirred! Even more so when i realized that the machine had no leads attached to it other than a DVI cable. So, I decided to have a look under the hood, finding a Quadro sign and the number 5000, unfortunately I didn't see much more during my brief glimpse into the machine as I was immediately called to a meeting. However, further research into the Quadro has revealed that there are different versions of the 5000, so not actually sure what we got here. The card is definitely a few years old as it has a good layer of dust on it.

Having sat on this all afternoon I regret not having a better second look, but I will be returning to the office on Wednesday when I can take a few pictures, that should reveal some more details. As I said I am in the early stages of returning back to the PC world and am in a very experimental mood.

I have been thinking about this card all day, sitting there literally gathering dust. It is very much within my possibility to ask for this card to take home to my private system for some time. So here is the actual purpose of this post: Should I bring this card back and run it though its paces? Is this actually a good find? If you believe it would be interesting for me to look at, what are some interesting things I could do with it? I realize it is not a gaming card, but I am sure there are some interesting things that can be done with it, if not just to use for 3D modelling and rendering.

GPU-Z is usually the fastest way to know the GPU's full spec. Otherwise you can go check the driver. The 5000s are semi-high end models of that generation.

Just realized should have done a proper search of the card before posting. This is the issue when not living with google.

I realize that the card is nothing special any more, probably nothing to get excited about.

But still anything I could do with it that could be interesting?

Most like the first one, with the silver. Only got to look at it from the top of the tower, showing the name on the right, upward facing side of the PCB. Also, the PCB had a very thick layer of dust on it.

Therefore, it is probably the nearly 10 year old 5000 and that's why it's not being used.

the first one is a quadro 5000

it's a bit weaker than a 750...

Ok, as I was beginning to suspect and is totally in line with what I have come to expect with this companies hardware. Never the less, would have been a nice little Easter egg.

Thanks foe the benchmark website tho

yeah, userbenchmark is ul, so it's quite reputable

but the q5000 is a cool piece of tech, so if you can get your hands on it for a low price, you shouldn't regret

being a workstation card means there is optimization for apps like Solidworks. Maybe it would run those better than new entry level Geforce cards?

I'm game to give it a try :P. Thanks for your guys input, I might try see if I can get it for free, as its not being used. In which case I would be glad to play around with it.

Found this with some details on the card https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/quadro-5000.c897

If you don't need it then sell it on eBay. People are willing to pay double or triple the money for a fermi Quadro than they are for a 580.

It's a first gen Fermi (400 series) equivalent of a GTX 465 (same CUDA cores). List of Fermi GPUs https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/nvidia-gf100.g85

I doubt it's even usable in modern games, probably one of the slowest DX12 GPUs nvidia ever made. 9 Years old!

Gaming Rig:CPU: Xeon E3-1230 v2¦RAM: 16GB DDR3 Balistix 1600Mhz¦MB: MSI Z77A-G43¦HDD: 480GB SSD, 3.5TB HDDs¦GPU: AMD Radeon VII¦PSU: FSP 700W¦Case: Carbide 300R
