Right now my system plays 4k just fine on my 60hz display but I'm seriously considering getting 32" 1440p 144hz just for gaming. 32" so that it's the same size as my 4k..

Is it worth it? Just for gaming? I'm not wealthy by any means but I've been getting more and more into competitive games like CSGO lately..

I don't want better equipment with the idea that'll make me better.. I'm truly interested in whether or not it will make that much of a difference..

I honestly don't want two monitors anymore so I'm only considering this if it's worth it.

In other words, will someone with 144hz monitor kill me first every time while I'm on my 60hz monitor? I know other factors are in place but I think you know what I mean..

Thanks!

do you play a lot of fast paced games like CS:GO? if not i wouldnt bother

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

That's almost all I've been playing lately.. CSGO, Apex, Rainbow Six..

I just don't know if it's worth it.. I might just get rid of my 4k for a 34" ultrawide.

id get a 144Hz panel then, if you can run a 1440p one at that framerate id go for one, 1440p 144Hz is really nice

I know it's nice, but does it really give an advantage over 60hz? I use my display for more than gaming. I'm a web designer and developer and I really love my 4k..

Will the 144hz actually give me a competitive advantage over 60hz or does it just look better?

There is a big debate wether 144hz really makes a difference. However as soneone who has played with both 60 and 144 I can say that if you are playing valve matchmaking then the server only refreshes at 64 tick so that would then bottleneck you if you got a 144hz display. However if you play ESEA or Faceit whos servers refresh at 128 tick then 144hz would be a good idea. Another factor is your web design, will that be the primary use of your monitor? Personaly in your position I would  keep the 4k 60hz monitor But if you are going strong into fast pased compeditive games then 144hz id a definate improvement. (Only for CsGo sorry but i dont know enought about the other games to give an informed explination)

Thanks for your reply. That definitely helps! How do I know which servers are which, though?

Esea and Faceit are external 3rd party softwares that have their own matchmaking if you just launch csgo and play then you are on valve Matchmaking then you are on 64 tick

It does. Also the server tick has nothing to do with monitor refresh rate. Also there is a client tick which can be different between games. Higher refresh will be a bonus regardless if you can push such framerate.

If you're into such games more, yeah it will be nice to have one. But no doesn't mean someone having higher refresh rate monitor will kill you faster just like that. Still depends on your skill where you may notice 60Hz is dragging you down and just feels and looks jarring to play on. Especially if you've seen higher refresh rate monitor before. It won't give you advantage if your skill is sub par though. Pro player will still beat average like player using 60Hz anyway.

I think he meant that having a 144Hz monitor does not make a difference on low-tick servers, speaking on reflexes and being able to see what happens on a wider perspective, which can be relatable and a 144Hz gives you an huge advantage in this specific case on high-tick servers, but even on low tick ones imho you can still track your enemies easier

Thank you. When I had my 144hz 1080p I wasn't into csgo and games alike so right now 60hz looks good to me at 4k.. So I'm not spoiled yet.. I see people that say once you go 144hz you never want to go back..

True, when you play on 144Hz getting back to 60Hz feels even worse then, especially for very fast paced games, like Quake Champions that I play. You move at insane speeds.

I also always wanted 4K as I'm a web designer too hehe but yeah, can't give up high refresh rate and they're more affordable too.

That's why I'm thinking ultrawide at like 100+hz, seems like a decent compromise.. I don't really like multi monitor setups anymore and 4k really gave me the real estate I wanted.. I'm like spoiled with the PPI I have now at around 138..UW is around 109.. I'm afraid it won't look that good because my 24 1080p was 91 PPI and it fucking sucks for anything other than gaming..

Hm yeah maybe, personally not fan of ultrawides though, especially for fps games, some like it. Gotta try it to see it. I have 3 monitor setup but true higher PPI is great for sure.
