ok so, i'm planning to give my brother a PC built from spare parts. the specs will be something like this:

Cpu: Core 2 Quad Q9550

Gpu: Nvidia GTX 780Ti

Ram: 8GB (4x2gb) DDR2

Mobo: Asus P5N32-E SLI

Storage: a few 120GB SSD'S

Psu: Corsair RM550X

now here's the thing. i know for a fact that this cpu can go to 3.8ghz. i ran it before in a different board and it got to that clock speed and was stable. i'm planning ot OC it to that speed again.

but i'm not sure the psu in that system can handle such an overclock and a 780Ti.

so is the psu good enough?

A quick trip the Newegg's PSU calc tells me 570 watts, and that's with a 750 Ti because they don't have a 780 Ti on there for whatever reason. I'd go 650 watt on this, just to be on the safe side.

It's fine. You won't have issues powering a ~330W system with a 550W PSU.

That's wall power draw, not DC.

i don't know who to believe....

Let's see: The Newegg calculator says your build will use much more power than what actual real-world testing measured.

Newegg is also a store... which sells power supplies... and more powerful power supplies are more expensive than lower power ones...

Easy to connect the dots now!
