Hello! I just built my new PC and I’m super stoked! From my old build I had a 2tb HDD that works great, but as soon as I tried to connect it to my main one it did not get recognized, even through Disk Management. It does not even show up in my bios. I want to be able to use this disk and keep the data on it because it has all my AE project files on it and I need them. Is there anyone who can help out? Also, when trying to mount the disk in Disk Management it shows a 4gb partition but when I try to mount it it says something about a I/O port not working. Thank you for reading!

That does not sound totally right, when a unit does not appear in the BIOS, it does not appear in Windows either because the BIOS shows the electronic connection between devices and the MOBO. What might happen is that it appears in the BIOS but not in the disk management and that could be resolved assigning one new letter to the drive.

Thanks for the response! Nothing appears in bios and I am unable to assign a new letter, as whenever I do I get an error about I/O ports. Thank you!

Have you tried a different SATA cable, different SATA power connector, and tried a different SATA port on the motherboard yet?
And have you tried the drive in your old system to double check that it works?

Hi! Thanks for the reply! I tried the HDD using the cords that worked for my SSD on my HDD and the same result. Also I am not able to as the other systems motherboard is broken but it was working one day before I built my new one. Thanks!

hmmm

You could try enabling SATA hot plug and connect the HDD while you are in Windows and see if anything happens.

If possible, you could also try a USB external HDD dock to test functionality on the PC or another system.

I saw the option for SATA hotplug and tried it out, nothing happened. Also I do not have one if those HDD docks. When I plug in power for the drive it spins for a few seconds and stops after about 6

This is bad news. When a unit does not appear even in BIOS it is more likely because the unit is dead, If you do not have a way to test it on another system to check the lifespan status, look for a replacement for that unit.

So I was talking with my friend, and he told me to try other sata ports and such, and we are trying to find a resolution because I think I might be doing something wrong. It was working the day before I built my new system, so I am going to keep trying things. Do you have any troubleshooting suggestions? Thank you!

heres my thoughts

1) Have you tried to use different sata ports?

2) Have you tried a different psu connector?

3) Have you tried a different psu entirely?

4) Hello IT have you tried turning it off and on again?

Hey! Thanks for the response. I tried using both new sata ports, cords, and PSU plugs that I know work (because they worked on my SSD) and I did turn it off and on again many times xD. I am not sure what else it could be besides that, which is why I came to the fourms for help! :) Thanks for the response

get the psu so its just connected to the hard drive and use the jump start trick to see if the hard drive spins up

There really is not much that can be done unfortunately , as mentioned above when the hard drive cannot be recognized in BIOS on any computer or when trying different slots or other working cables or equipment, then the unit is dead.
