With an onboard RAID controller yes that's about what to expect. The parity RAID types (5, 6) aren't fast. You might be able to speed it up using a dedicated RAID controller.

Hello, Im doing a RAID5 in my system ... 4X 1TB 7200RPM drives.

 

I know raid 5 writes speed are supposed to be low ... im getting 40mbps, is it normal speed.
