Nas isn't booting, please help

Hello,

 

My NAS, i built to essentially be a PLEX server, isn't booting. It will post and i can get into the Bios, but that is all. If i just let it boot up it'll go to a black screen with an underscore there and that is all (this comes up after the post screen).

 

It is running FreeNas.

 

I am a noob when it comes to fixing computers and the like, I appreciate all of your help.

That's a sign your boot device is probably dead. 

FreeNAS is installed on a USB stick I guess? You'll need to restore a copy of it to a new USB to recover it. If you don't have a backup then you'll need to create a new boot stick, and then import your array into the new install.

Forgot to add a disclaimer: the import option assumes you either a) haven't encrypted the volume, or b) you have the encryption recovery key.

 

Other than that, fairly straight forward

 

What you might want to do is get 2 USB sticks and then once you've got it up and running, mirror them so it if it fails again it will switch to the backup
