I have a budget of $2000 for my computer. I would like for the system components to cost around $1200 and the rest of the budget ($800) to be spent on peripherals like mouse, keyboard, monitor and speakers. Also I'd like to buy a desk and comfortable chair too

Here are the parts I've picked out so far, I'm open to change any components if there are compatibility issues or bottlenecks. This is also my first build but I'm knowledgeable on this topic.

CPU: AMD RYZEN 5 2600 [$230 CDN @ AMAZON.CA]

MOTHERBOARD: ASUS ROG Strix B450-F [$160 CDN @ AMAZON.CA]

RAM: Kingston Technology HyperX FURY Black 16 GB Kit CL15 DIMM DDR4 2400 MT/s [$155 @ AMAZON.CA]

GPU: Gigabyte Radeon RX 580 Gaming 8GB [$270 CDN @ AMAZON]

PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 550 G3, 80 Plus Gold 550W, Fully Modular [$120 CDN @ AMAZON.CA]

STORAGE: Samsung 860 EVO 2.5" SATA III 1TB  OR   500GB Samsung 970 EVO M.2 PCI-Express 3.0 SSD [$210 CDN & $217 CDN RESPECTIVELY @ AMAZON.CA]

CASE: Thermaltake Versa N21 Black Edition Translucent Window Panel SPCC ATX Mid Tower [$80  CDN@ AMAZON]

Questions:

1. Should I get the Ryzen 5 2600 or the 2600X, I don't plan on overclockingl

2. Will the RAM be compatible with the motherboard I've chosen, also will the m.2 SSD work with it as well?

3. Is there a better case? I'd like a reputable brand like NZXT, Corsair, CoolerMaster etc. and preferably not exceeding $120 CDN

4. Is there a real world difference between the m.2 SSD and the SATA SSD? On paper the m.2 is way faster but will I notice a difference? (Check previous build below)

USAGE SENARIO: I work full-time, exercise daily and go to school so I'll probably only use the computer on my days off which is the weekend. I'll probably play SOME games and if I do I'd like to play at maximum settings. I like to code so I will be doing some of that as well. No video-editing or photoshop etc. Probably some Microsoft Office, content consumption like Netflix and social media browsing. I play mostly FPS like Battlefield but I like BF3 and BF4 only. The newer battlefields don't interest me. I like FPS and third-person like GTA V. I don't need a really powerful PC but something that won't be slow.

My first computer was also my last computer if you don't include laptops. I currently use an ASUS Zenbook UX305 with Core m3 processor, 8GB RAM, integrated graphics, 250gb SSD and 1080p screen. I got it for school cause of it's long battery life and fanless operation.

Previous Build

AMD ATHLON 64 4200+ @2.2ghz

1GB RAM

250GB 7200RPM HDD

Nvidia graphics, but it was integrated on the motherboard and it was so long ago I dont remember which one but it wasn't powerful.

The most annoying part was lack of RAM, the processor was good just the RAM would fill up too quickly.

I reccomend faster RAM and if you dont want to OC you‘re better off with a 2600X

otherwise you could spend that money on the ram and oc the 2600 to at least 2600x performance

Okay so I switched out for some cheaper and faster memory which is the G.Skill - Aegis 16 GB DDR4-3000

Thats really helpfull with Ryzen,

if your not confident in overclocking just stick to a guide from der8auer for example and do what he tells you. Its not as hard as it sounds like :D
