PS4 Slim hard drive upgrade

So i wanted to upgrade my ps4 slim hdd because it already filled up within 1 year and its slow so i found a good hdd and i ordered it but when i look up tutorials for upgrading the hdd every video says that i must format my ps4 is this true? I dont want to install the games again

+ i have a 2tb external hdd so i can use that if i can backup the old hdd

No, where did you get that?!
You just replace the HDD, download the (right!!) Firmware file, wich should be around 1GiB or so, put that on a USB drive with FAT32 file system in the PS4/UPDATE Folder and call it a day.

 

Though depending on the Internet Connection, you absolutely should backup your stuff!
Well, at least Savegames, Settings, Screenshots/Videos...

The PS4 partitions and formats the drive automatically.

Whatever you put in @GeneralOxxy will be cleaned by the PS4...
