Ok, so my friend just got a new SSD and he wants to install windows 7 onto it. He wants a fresh install do I helped him through the process of making a Bootable USB etc, but now we have an issue, we can't access the bios to change the boot menu and after the bios splash screen it just blank screens with a flashing white line at the top left of the monitor.

Anyone know what to do?

Thanks!

Clear CMOS on the motherboard.

Or press F8/F12 on boot to skip the Bios and go straight to Boot Options. (This key may be different depending on the motherboard, but it's usually one of the F keys)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700x / GPU: Asus Radeon RX 6750XT OC 12GB RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x16GB DDR4-3200
MOBO: MSI B450m Gaming Plus NVME: Corsair MP510 240GB / Case: TT Core v21 PSU: Seasonic 750W / OS: Bazzite

Ok I'll try clearing the CMOS. To do that, you just take out that battery, right, the circular one?

And I've already tried going straight to the boot menu. It just goes to that blank screen.

simply removing the battery will not clear cmos.

First you unplug the computer from the wall and press the power button to get rid of residual power. (you should see the light on the motherboard go out)

If the motherboard has onboard buttons you can press to do so, press the Clr-Cmos button, otherwise, you'll need to look for a the Clr-Cmos jumper.

Most motherboards will have 3 pins somewhere close the to bios chips around the bottom with the mention "clr-cmos" underneath. On those 3 pins, there should be a "jumper" (a piece of plastic that links two of the pins together... If there's only two pin and no jumper, you can use a screwdriver to link the pins together.)

You take that jumper and move it one space, so it covers the middle pin still and the previously uncovered pin.
Once that's done, replace it back to its previous position, power the computer and the BIOS should've been cleared.

If all else fails, you could always just try updating the BIOS, if it was "corrupted", it will be fix that way... But be aware that BIOS updates may brick a computer if done incorrectly. If this is a dual bios motherboard, just switch BIOS.

Do you mind explaining a bit more. He's got an i5. Gtx 960...idk what U mean?

You have to look into the BIOS. If it UEFI or legacy (legacy boot). I will be honest. I don't much myself. Just know that there's a difference.
