Want to build a Ryzen 7 2700x machine

EZ2541

1. Budget & Location

I'd like to keep it near $1700USD if i can, but can go upward somewhat if needed.

2. Aim

This machine is gonna do a little bit of everything. It will be running a few VM's at once when testing software updates. Also will be used for gaming, and I'm sick of the current "gaming" setup. In the near future it will be used for a good amount of 3D CAD work(Mostly Inventor). Also i will be running a small business off of it.

3. Monitors

I currently run 2 1080p monitors. One is 60Hz and the other is 144Hz. May end up with three in the future but not absolutely necessary.

4. Peripherals

May need to purchase windows 10, but may be able to get it through my University.

5. Why are you upgrading?

My current build is:

CPU: AMD fx-6300

GPU: AMD r7 360

RAM: 16GB ddr3 1866MHz

It sucks

So i would like to go Ryzen on this, and have a build ill link below for scrutiny.

Let me know what you guys think!

Thanks in Advance!

This is what I would change: PSU, cooler, GPU and CPU.

Why?

The PSU isn't too great. Bad overcurrent protection, loud fan and has coil whine.

I wouldn't recommend a Corsair H60 when you can get a better air cooler for less.

I wouldn't buy a GTX 1080 new.

You can get a Ryzen 7 2700 for less that performs similarly. I would only recommend a 2700X if you're going to do quite a bit of overclocking.

This is what I would recommend instead:

That's a fine build but like the others said, get a better PSU, don't get that AIO cooler and get an RTX 2080 if you want to spend that much on a GPU.

I would also consider just getting a Ryzen 2600 for now and see if it can handle your work load, I do a lot with my computer for work like web design/development and run a shit load of programs (no VMs tho) and I use a 2600x. The reason I say this is because Ryzen is releasing new processors in a few months that will be significantly better, on par with Intel 9th gen but with more cores. Since you use VMs, this will be great as it's looking like the 3600X  will have 8 to 12 cores, a lot of people are expecting a 3700X (or whatever it may be called) to be 16 cores. Core count is pure speculation, but with good reason.

There's no telling for sure exactly what AMD will be releasing but most are optimistic and eagerly waiting.
