Not sure if I should wait for the summer when new Ryzen CPU comes out or if I should just bite the bullet and purchase something right now. I know if I purchase something from AMD right now at least when summer comes I will be able to upgrade to the new generation if the performance is amazing. The price for a current AMD part list with the cpu and ASUS Prime mobo would be about $312 USD on PCPartPicker pricing.

Is my aging 6600k holding my GPU back at high refresh 1440p gaming? Would I need to get higher frequency RAM for better Ryzen performance? I bought the RAM in 2015 right before the surge in pricing. ?

With your specs, I'd just wait till the new goodies are released. You're not hurting too bad as is.

Me personally, I don't actually have a choice. I need to upgrade now, so I'm going with the 2700x, Vega VII, and 32GB of 3200mhz ram. I'll simply just buy the new Ryzen, flip the old one, and possibly do the same with the gpu. Also I see you're from Philly, we ain't that far from eachother lol.

Where'd you get an i6 from? /s

I mean if anything by increased resolution you are alleviating the pressure the CPU. You are fine, with Ryzen 5 2600 you are actually going to get similar performance if anything a simple boost nothing great. As intel's architectures are still single thread kings, which matters more for gaming compared to productivity.

Your current setup seems to be fine. Is there a reason you want to "upgarde'? Performance issue?

I have an older rig and game fine on 1440p.

Ryzen 7 5800X3D , Arctic Liquid Freezer  III , Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite , Corsair Vengeance 32GB , Gigabyte RTX 5070Ti ,  WD SN850 / MP44L

Corsair RM 850x, LIAN LI Lancool 207

It's so far away from summer that I really really don't want to wait lol. I'm just mainly curious to see what the FPS difference would be. It's hard to find FPS charts comparing relatively old CPUs to the new generation ones. All the videos I found were from very small channels that I do not trust with their charts.

add 20-30% increase (6600k > 2500k)

the 6600k should be fine.

I scribbled out the little 5 and Sharpied in a 6 to feel special. Even with the extra few cores the performance is still the same? I know Intel is better for strictly gaming, I was looking into an i5-9600k but the price is so steep that I don't want to give money to Intel just on principle.

The performance issues no, just looking at performance gains. Just want to get the most FPS I can for a reasonable cost. Since I got my CPU in 2015, it seems about the time for an upgrade.

I would definitely wait for 3rd gen Ryzen. The system you have now is fine and 3rd gen Ryzen is looking like it will be worth waiting a few months for.

I'm so impatient lol. I hate waiting since it's so far away it seems like.
