Sudden lag in gaming

I have the taller rams with heatsyncs. Would would a bigger cpu fan fit?

You would need to check with the individual coolers and see what clearance they have. Some don't overhang the RAM slots (though most tower coolers will).

You should move your graphics card to the top PCIe slot. That bottom slot that you have the graphics card in currently is only PCIe x4, while the top slot is PCIe x16. Running at PCIe x4 mode may be causing some performance issues.

Hi, I've been rocking a gaming pc with the following configuration since the last 5 years.

i7 4790k
8x2 corsair vengeance ram
Nvidia gtx 760 by asus
Gigabyte z97d3hp motherboard
120 gb ssd coupled with a 2 tb hdd (both WD green).

Most of the games that I've been playing on this machine have been in working fine until a few weeks ago.

All games were played at 1080p.
Just cause 3 - low to med settings, 40-50 fps.
Gta 5 - med to high settings - 55-60fps.
Injustice 2 - low to med settings - 60fps.
Rise of tomb raider - med preset - 60fps.
Assassin's creed odyssey - low to med - 30-45fps.

In the last couple of weeks I've noticed some serious amount of lag with all these games

JC3 - low settings 18-28 fps (unplayable)

Injustice 2 - low to med 30-40 fps

Rise of tomb raider - med preset - 24-30 fps

AC Odyssey - lowest settings 7-26fps (unplayable)

Gta 5 - unable to connect to servers

Both Nvidia and the Intel HD drivers are upto date and and I have a 40mbps internet connection (rockstar server). Arethere any options to fix this issue other than giving windows 10 and all the games a fresh install as I already did that back in December.

CPU, GPU temps? Could be thermal throttling.

CPU: Intel i7 6700k  | Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 5 | RAM: 2x16GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX | GPU: Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080ti | PSU: Corsair RM750x (2018) | Case: BeQuiet SilentBase 800 | Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34 eSports | SSD: Samsung 970 Evo 500GB + Samsung 840 500GB + Crucial MX500 2TB | Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HU + Samsung BX2450

try roll back & try again.

other than that from task manager/ resource monitor , see any in high usage

These are temperatures with Assassin's creed odyssey. Also I don't exactly know what temp 1,2 and 3 stand for on speed fan but temp 2 is always at 127° even when the system has just been turned on, that unit doesnt change for some reason

How do I roll it back? I've downloaded the drivers using Nvidia experience so it's pretty much automated

1st: Monitor your CPU and GPU temperatures under IDLE and under LOAD. I recommend HWMonitor.

2nd: Check your drives with Hard Disk Sentinel (trial is fine).

3rd: Check the rest of your drivers with something like IOBit driver booster if you're unfamiliar with doing it manually.

4th: I've made a batch script using chkdsk, dism and sfc, it might help you.

your cpu temp 80C+ is quite high, but at only 30% usage, better cooler may be?

also what mobo is that? the 127C may be a dummy value on low end boards like h81 etc

Most likely a false reading. If the software is expecting a sensor to read a value, but there's no sensor, it might just error out and read an abnormally high reading.

For the CPU; mid 60s, with peaks of 80-85C aren't too bad. Could be lower but depending on your cooler might be fairly normal temperatures while under load, and it's not going to cause thermal throttling at those temperatures. 75C on the GPU seems normal for load temperatures as well. Doesn't look to be temperature related then.

Are both RAM sticks being detected? Does Task Manager show the 16GB of RAM?
Does HDSentinel or CrystalDiskInfo show any errors on any of the storage drives? Any abnormal noises like clicking for example?

That 30% usage reading might be a bit off, RealTemp isn't always the best at reading CPU usage especially when there may be uneven load across multiple cores. It might also be lower usage if they alt +Tabbed out of the game to take the screenshot of the temp readings.
Even with the 80C temps it's not going to be thermal throttling the CPU to cause the sudden and unexpected drop in performance. (I was expecting perhaps the CPU fan stopped working, or was clogged with dust and that may have been the cause of the recent performance loss)

Yes both ram sticks have are detected and drives are fine. Also the cpu fan isnt clogged up with dust since I had just cleaned it up a few weeks ago but I have noticed some slowing in the speed when the pc is idle. Like the fan would stop spinning for a second or two and then start again. But I've never noticed this kind of behaviour during heavy load

What's Drive H:? Seems HD Sentinel can't detect any information for it?

It's the unallocated space from one of the drives

Ah... Weird that it is showing up as a volume with a drive letter though, as that would require the space to be allocated to a volume... Anyway as long as it's unallocated space and not a separate [dead/dying] physical drive that isn't being detected it should be fine.

Hardware wise I'm not seeing anything abnormal that would cause your performance issues. Might be a driver related issue. Do what @dgsddfgdfhgs suggested earlier and roll back to a different driver version.
I would strongly recommend running DDU to uninstall the existing display drivers and then install either the latest display drivers, or an older version of drivers, downloaded directly from the Nvidia websites
(don't let Windows automatically search and install the drivers).

Yeah I am installing the 26th November version of the GeForce driver. Also checkout the video down below thats the kind of weird behaviour I've noticed recently with the cpu fan. It'll slowdown to almost a halt and then speed up again

not a big issue, but better get it replaced.

any tower cooler 2~4 heatpipes, even 9cm fan will be much better in temp

I cant bare its noise at idle for just acting as case fan (20~30%)

What's your take on this cooler??

its a okay cooler... 9 cm 3pin fan & just 2 heatpipes

at the end i chose 4 heatpipe version, needs to manually tune the fan speed

i had a bit hard time installing the bracket on my h61m-k, spaces are tight

Aah, guys any fix for GTA 5 issue? I Downloaded the trial version of tunnelbear and I was able to sign in, but vpn isn't exactly a solution. Any suggestions?

It's probably just adjusting fan speed based on CPU temp. Fan slows down, temps rise, causing the fan to spin faster, causing temps to drop, causing fan to slow down... Repeat.

That's more of a GTA V specific issue... Do a search for your problem and see if anyone else is experiencing it and has find a solution.

Are you using a legitimate copy of the game or a pirated version?
