Hi guy's i just got a new pc and i want to enable trim on it couse i have a ssd as my boot drive but i forgot to change my sata type to AHCI mode befor installing windows 7 !

 

    Can i just go back to the bios and change my sata type to AHCI or is there any command for CMD that kan du it for me or do i need to reinstall windows agian?

Most modern motherboards has it enabled by default.

I recommend you go into the BIOS and make sure if it's set to AHCI or IDE before doing anything else.

If it is set to IDE then follow this guide:

AHCI: Enable in Windows 7 / Vista

READ THE ENTIRE GUIDE!!!

DO NOT SKIP ANYTHING!!!

It requires quite a bit more work that just flipping the switch in BIOS. You also need to change a registry entry to enable it in Windows, otherwise you will start getting error messages, you won't get the performance you expect, the lifespan of your SSD will be shorter, etc. If you haven't done anything on the computer yet then it might be best if you reinstall. That way you will be sure than everything such as TRIM is enabled, AHCI mode is properly on, SuperFetch is disabled, and all the other configs Windows automatically does when you install it on an SSD is configured properly.
