I would go with a 1050TI

It will be nice for some simple games and it can still be a nice card for whenever he upgrades to a better CPU/MB/Ram  :)

That's dumb. If you're buying new get an RX 570 as they're usually cheaper or around the same price and crush a 1050 ti in performance. Whether you need that performance or not, it's the same price or cheaper. I just looked on PCPARTPICKER in my country (USA) and the cheapest 570 was $30 cheaper than a 1050 ti.
