8 gigs of ram

2070 gigabyte windforce

256 SSD

144hz 1080p monitor

Reusing SSD. Returning 2070 for 2080.

Buying everything from microcenter. Mostly play pubg, looking for validation for build.

Your build looks excellent man.  Only gripe is, spend 90 dollars more and get the 9900k and Turbo her to 5Ghz and join the 5Ghz club.  For only 90 more at amazon right now its 499.99 , just fyi....  Other then that everything looks good and in place.

I'd still go 8700K, I like hyperthreading tho for some reason in my head.

 

Add a large mass storage drive as well, 256GB isn't much for gaming.

 

Btw, MC has G. Skill Ripjaws V 3200Mhz 16GB kit for $119 still I think.

Hello fellow Atlantan. Grabbing everything from microcenter, the price difference between the two cpu/mobo combo is $100. I tried doing my research but couldn't find a consistent answer. People are saying that the cost difference is not worth going with 9700k while others are saying that the 9700k results in better FPS.

In my head I am having a very hard time coming to grips with how 8 cores are better than 6c/12t, running all at 5.0GHz even.  I don't know what use cases one is better than the other.

 

I've only had the 8700K to really get into tho, and have no issues with it at all.  I guess I feel the 9700K is not a necessary CPU.  It isn't needed in that step from the 8700K to the 9900K.  

 

I could be missing something tho.

 

Btw,what MC are you hitting?  I'm up by the Duluth one, and spend way too much there

I'd just get the i5-9600k then, the 8700k is barely faster, stock, than the 9th gen i5

Ah, forgot to mention that I read that to get optimal oc results. Everyone is saying that the 8700k has to be delidded. Which is why I was going to go with the 9700k. Not really interested in delidding the cpu with the limited time I have after work. Yep, looking at the MC in duluth off pleasant hill. I'm going to make it rain today at that store after work.

I'm not delidded, so take what people are saying with a grain of salt.  Delidding gets you better temps sure,but I have no issue at 5GHz without doing it.
