RTX 2060 Troubleshooting

Zanakinz
Go to solution Solved by Wormhole,

can you upload a picture, have you got a spare hdmi?

Hello!

I have upgraded to a 2060 from a 1060 as my girlfriend accidentally spilled some juice on top of my tower (which has air pockets for the fans) and presumably fried the GPU.  Everything else seems to be OK.

The problem I am having now is, when I am on my desktop and I change my resolution in the Nvidia graphics options to 4k (I have a 4k TV) OR 1440p it starts showing green snow.

These are a list of the issues I have personally came across when trying to up to graphics to 1440p-4k

1. Green snow (Guarenteed every time)

2. Flickering black then back on (Uncommon, only happened twice)

3. Switching to 1080p from 4k still shows green snow until I put it to 1024x768 then back up to 1080p (only happened once?)

I am unsure of what is exactly going on...  My HDMI cord wasn't long enough so I hooked it up to an HDMI extender, as well as my HDMI cord has a little wobble to it due to my girlfriend accidentally tripping and knocking it out.

When I get home from work i'll be trying it on my TV's ports # 3-4 since those may be hdmi 2.0.  I will also try disconnecting the extender..

My specs:

RTX 2060

Z87-A

HiSense 55" H6 UHD TV

i5-4670k

Any tips on what's going on or how to fix it would be much appreciated

Thank you,

Zanakinz

That's which one I am currently using.  Was unsure if maybe 3-4 was the 2.0 spot.

If your TV is HDR you need HDMI 2.0b if it isnt HDR just a 2.0 cable, make sure your HDMI cable or HDMI extender isnt 1.4

My TV is HDR-Compatible.  The specs say 2 2.0's and 2 1.4 slots

The extender is: https://www.insigniaproducts.com/pdp/NS-HZ316/4770800

I can only assume the extender is causing the issue because the original HDMI never caused this (but my girlfriend would constantly knock it out of the GPU..) Maybe its just not seated right, but I definitely pushed firmly.

I looked it up on amazon and it says 10.2gbps so I am assuming it would be 1.4 extender connecting to a 2.0 cord?

Yeah the extender is 1.4, 2.0 is 18Gbps

Okay, i'll attempt it without the 1.4 & if it works i'll just buy this cord from Amazon (its cheaper then the extender and longer then what I even have currently!)

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DI88YCC/ref=psdc_3236443011_t1_B00SI1JA0Y

Hopefully it works, if you're using HDR with your PC get a 2.0b to support it or turn HDR off

I attempted taking the extender off & it still did not work.  Now its just black on 4k & on 1440p it shows green snow.

uninstall the drivers with DDU in safe mode and reinstall the newest 2060 drivers from the manufacturers website, and try removing the GPU and putting it back in.

You're right without directly stating it.  I went out and bought a 2070 because I was unsure.  I placed it in HDMI 3 (which is rated for 4k@60hz says the tv panel) and it still caused issues and then started to flicker.  At the final attempt before thinking the juice messed up my mobo...  I went to walmart and bought a 25ft HDMI Cable also rated at 2.0 & it worked now!  I marked this as the answer.

I'll also be uninstalling with DDU.

Yeah I know!  The store policy is 15 day return policy for almost all items, no questions asked.  (Bestbuy)
