My new PC build is giving me BSODs when waking from sleep, and sometimes doesn’t wake up at all. If it’s been in sleep mode for about an hour or more, the case fans, keyboard, and GPU will power up, but nothing else.

Here’s what I’ve narrowed down:

  • It’s not a Windows/driver issue because the same thing happens when running off a Linux Mint Live USB.
  • Reset and reflashed BIOS, same problem.
  • Swapped the sticks around into different slots, same problem.

After all that, I tried the two sticks individually. It seems that one of them is faulty, as everything works just fine without it installed.

However, neither Windows Memory Diagnostics or memtest86 report any errors with it. It’d be nice if it would report something so I can provide proof to the seller.

I know it has to be that one stick that’s bad, but is there anything else I should be looking at here?

Here's a few options off the top of my head
- Have you tried each stick in each memory slot? because it could be the slot itself and not the RAM stick.
- Or could even the CPU (had a bent pin once causing memory related BSOD's on only 1 slot) so it might be worth re-seating the CPU and checking the pins.
- I know you said you flashed the BIOS but did you triple check there isn't a newer version?
- It could also be a power/PSU issue might be worth trying it with a different power supply or removing the CPU and MOBO power connectors and firmly re-seating them.
