Cant limit gpu temperature

So I tried to limit the gpu temperature of my gpu in msi afterburner but it just reverts back to 90c every time. I know that limiting it will lead to a little bit worse performance but I would still like to keep this gpu for a while and not lose it to temperature. Is there anyway to fix this? my gpu is an  rx 580 8gb

Did you make sure you hit apply after changing it?

update drivers and Afterburner?  Or else try it in Wattman
