I'm running windows 10 on bootcamp on my 2013 iMac with an i5 and GT 640M. Looking into my system information via msinfo32 shows that I have 8GB installed, a total of 6.20GB physical memory and 1.03 Available physical memory.

I've already tried setting the max memory on the advanced settings via msconfig and by selecting no paging file option on the virtual memory. Restarting after wards the first time showed that the available physical memory was raised to ~5GB, however upon restarting it reverts back to 1GB avaible physical memory.

That could be okay. A screenshot of the memory in task manager would help to explain.

For example in my system i have 16GB, in use is 5,3GB, 7GB is reserved, 3,8GB is available.

You might also lose some to the iGpu of the i5

What programs are you using ritght now and running in the background?

Available physical memory is just the leftover memory you currently have.

Don't disable paging file, 8gb is not that big for win10 to handle all memory, if you have enough memory than you can disable it.

No need to set max memory, this is a bad practice.

To lower your memory consumption, close some tabs and disable background process.

I did as you said and reverted the changed to paging file. I've also reduced the tabs I have opened significantly down to 8-10. I've also cleared the cache for my browsers. What was odd for me is that the ram occupied by chrome still remained the same even after closing so many tabs and disabling background processes.

p.s. also is it normal for the memory usage shown in the task manager to be above 90% at all times? (I'm running steam and chrome, disabled background processes).

1 tab can consume up to 300mb, clearing cache won't make a difference as caches are stored in the disk.

You can use another browser than chrome, chrome is known as a hog and having memory leaks bug.

Whats your initial ram when you started windows? (without any programs opened)

Looking at the task bar it shows 4.7 GB/ 6.2GB, would a fresh re-installation of chrome have an impact? The chrome experience is something I really don't want to compromise on, I just need to wait a few more months until I have a budget to get a new pc and even so I still want to prolong the lifespan of this current system.
