So I finally installed an SSD like a lot of people recommended doing, and I'm going to keep around 1-3 of my favorite games along with my background programs. I'm also wondering what kind of performance increase I should see after having the SSD installed. Its the Crucial MX300 for reference that I had bought back in 2017 and just left sitting. (I had an FX CPU at the time and when I would install the SSD I would be unable to boot, I believe due to power issues)

It's unlikely an SSD put you over the power threshold for your computer, if the few watts one of those uses put your computer over the edge, there was something much worse going on.

That said, Windows 10 used to take 10-15 minutes to boot on my SSHD, which has an 8GB partition that it's supposed to automatically store things like boot files onto, so even with that my performance was stupidly bad. Now the boot time for Windows on my SSD is about 7 seconds. Games still take unbelievably long to load sometimes, though, I believe they're trying to load textures and stuff into the VRAM among other places which means they'll probably be taking that long to load for the rest of our lives.

You won't see any performance improvements in-game, but loading times will likely be about halved.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's strange I've been running 2 HDD's and it never takes more than 1 minute for my windows to boot. I did enable fast boot through BIOS, and disabled many startup programs so it was just discord+steam. Maybe that's why I've nevber had exceptionally long boot times.

Boot programs really don't matter to boot time though, because programs load after signing into windows, not waiting for windows itself to boot. But yes, it is weird, I never knew why it happened, just happy that it works way faster now.
