DDR4 2400 Compatibility

Hi doods,

 

I am using an AsRock B250 gaming k4 with an I5 6th gen. The site said that it supports only upto DDR4 2133 if using a 6th gen processor and upto DDR4 2400 if will be using 7th gen.

Question is, will a DDR4 2400 still works if you are using a 6th gen cpu? If it does what will be the drawback?

Oki dokie, 2400 will work but the speed will just run at 2133.
