Change channel name only

I want to change the name of my youtube channel to something else, but I still want my name to stay the same in google hangouts chats and whatnot. Is there a way to do that or do I have to start a new google account and migrate my subs?

If the channel was created with your personal YouTube account, you cannot change the name associated with it. You'll need to migrate it to a Brand account.

Actually, something is messed up. Now when I go into my sub feed, it says that there are no videos from any of my subscriptions, even though it says I'm subbed to a bunch of channels. And when I try to access my channel page, it says that it was closed and no longer available. Help!

Your channel page now has a new URL, making it display as closed. Your subscribers will be linked to your new channel. As for your sub feed, I'd give it a few hours or check on another device to ensure it's not browser-specific.
