bluetooth issue on macOS

if i enable bluetooth the menu bar icon immediately turns to the icon that shows that it is connected to something () however it isn't connected to anything. 

 

if i try to connect my Magic Mouse it will not connect. turning bluetooth off also takes a while. 

 

this issue happens on a MacBook Pro 13" Mid-2012 running Mojave 10.14.3.

Experienced the same problem a year ago on an iMac. Turned out the Magic Mouse died.

even with the mouse off it does this.

My Apple Watch connects to stuff automatically, so if you have one, you can check whether that's the culprit.

sadly i don't have one. 

 

i have my iPhone nearby but it still did this even when the bluetooth on my iPhone is off.

well i restored it form a time machine backup yesterday, and it's fine now...
