So I heard that ryzen chips perform much better with high frequency ram, from 3000mhz. So, in my bios, I have the option to use XMP. My memory is 2x4 of 2666mhz Ripjaws V, and my chip is the ryzen 3 1300x. I don't know much about RAM and stuff, so I was wondering if I should or could overclock it to 3000mhz. I know that overclocking ability varies from stick to stick, but can most sticks of ram hit a 400mhz overclock stably, or is it a stretch. Also, im not sure how my temps will be affected, but I dont believe it will impact my performance too much, correct?

You can try enabling XMP, but I haven't seen it work right since mid DDR3 days. Give it a shot, and if it doesn't work, try manually overclocking the RAM.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It will help with performance, but probably won't work correctly and you will have to do it manually and set timings to get best timings and speed.

Just keep in mind Slower speeds but tighter timings is faster.

I.E. 2133 CL12 is faster than 2666 CL15

I personally don't know where the XMP causes issues thing comes from? All of the PC's I have built in the last 5 years (something like 10 or so?) have been fine except 1, and that one seems to have an issue where if you set the RAM at its default speed, I forget what that was, possibly 2400 on a CPU that was default 2133, it causes on-board video issues.

So, really, I would say try it, and if you have issues, then come back and let us try and help you out. Personally I haven't had issues with XMP.

I can only echo this.  Have had lots of builds work perfectly fine with XMP profile set.  I've only had two instances where it caused problems and it wasn't due to the RAM or timings directly.  One was due to a Haswell build not liking 1.65V on the memory controller (older DDR3 kit that XMP wanted 1.65V to run 1600Mhz) and the other was due to a dying video card.  Somehow running JDEC 2133Mhz timing was fine on that one but DOCP (XMP on an Asus Ryzen board) 2933Mhz made the system unstable.  Took a while to figure out that it was actually a video card problem, but everything was happy once it was eventually replaced.

Tweaking the timings manually should still give better results, but it will take time and patience.

My B450 Gaming Pro Carbon wouldn't boot with 3733mHz XMP with a R5 2600. Able to get it at 3433mHz CL14 which seems to be the fastest I could get on bench.
