Hi everyone i didn't know which forum to put this in, but anyway here goes.

I'm thinking about upgrading my power supply to a 650W PSU and upgrading my graphics card to a 1060, 1080ti, 2060 or, a 2070 depending how much money I can save by the end of this year.

My current system is a HP Envy 700-230qe

With a 450w psu.

Attached is the rest of the specs of my system.

I'm considering this because I want to play some games like Destiny 2,  Battlefield etc. My current monitor is 1080p so I'll mostly be gaming at 1080p but would consider upgrading 1440p later down the road.

My Questions are as follows:

1. Is it worth upgrading the Graphics card for my goals or just scratch the whole idea?

2. If it is worth upgrading though, would a bronze evga psu be okay?

2.1. Which graphic card should be the most bang the buck?

2.2. Should i consider getting a 1 tb SSD and                  what would be the optimal SSD you would guys suggest?

A: if you are going for 60fps high details, maybe even on 1440p you can do this. Don't expect your CPU doing 144fps but at 1440p you are mostly limited by your gpu.

2. If it is worth upgrading though, would a bronze evga psu be okay?

checkout this post and get at least something from tier 3.

2.1. Which graphic card should be the most bang the buck?

The lower the number the higher the "bang for the buck" (disregarding anything below 80$). But for your needs espacially regarding 1440p I'd get a 1080 or better.

2.2. Should i consider getting a 1 tb SSD and what would be the optimal SSD you would guys suggest?

It does not have much impact on gaming so if the money is tight and gaming is the highest priority don't get one. It reduces your load times and if you install the os on it you can boot faster. If you want to do the latter get a good one (like Samsung evo series) if you only need it for games just get a cheap one (like SanDisk or Kingston). It depends on the current prices in your region.

if so id bring up this question then.

best bang for Buck GPUs atm are rx 570 and rx 580. though this is subject to change.

and yes id upgrade the PSU.

Yes. Your graphics card is what will be holding you back the most. Your i7 4770 will still perform well enough for your needs.

Depends on the unit. There's half a dozen different series of 80+ Bronze rated PSUs made by EVGA. Some are okay, some are bad. Check the PSU forum for the Tier List to see where the particular model lies.

RX 580 8GB would probably be the better pick for 1080p gaming, performs similarly to the GTX 1060 6GB. If you want to stick with Nvidia, then the 1060 6GB would also be fine, though on average costs about $20 more than the RX 580.
There's no need for a GTX 1080 Ti, RTX 2070, RTX 2080 if you're only playing on 1080p 60hz. If you do upgrade to 1440p 144hz or 4k 60hz then you might consider those cards, but at 1080p you'd just be wasting your money.

CPU: Intel i7 6700k  | Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 5 | RAM: 2x16GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX | GPU: Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080ti | PSU: Corsair RM750x (2018) | Case: BeQuiet SilentBase 800 | Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34 eSports | SSD: Samsung 970 Evo 500GB + Samsung 840 500GB + Crucial MX500 2TB | Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HU + Samsung BX2450

I honnestly wouldn't... if it has all the needed connectors, there's no need to change it, as the HP psu's generally are pretty high quality. If they don't have the needed connectors, I would look around for something like a cx(m), supernova g2, focus gold, pure power 11 or anything equivelent to that

im going by the assumption the system doesnt have the connectors. mostly because of the gt 640.

also he seems willing to spend a lot on a new GPU, which at that point id suggest spending at least 50$ on a new PSU, though that is just how i go about it.

I honnestly don't know if it does. but it would never hurt, that's true

more interesting is when he is planning on upgrading.

because this seems like a question worth answering when he has the capital to do the upgrade in near future or by the click of a button

mx500 is really cheap the last while, and they are equivelent to a 860 evo

First of all thanks for the input.

I really appreciate it.

I'm still evaluating, if it would be better to build a machine in the long run or just stretch the life of my current machine.

My main concern was my CPU and RAM would bottleneck the whole system.

Also I'm not very updated with current system compatible peripherals.

I'm also concerned that my 450W psu would not be enough for a more power hungry card nor had i considered if i had the right connectors.

power is fine.

we are more concerned with the quality of the PSU hand what connectors it has. you can pick up a cheap hd 7950 used and use your system for quite some time. it just needs a appropriate connector. (i think its a 6 pin but it might be 6+2 pin)
